Sustainable Surfaces
Talk of Sustainability,
or Climate Forward Design is really all about water. We want to be designing gardens that make the most effective use of water as possible. We also want to be very aware of heat; the reflective heat of hard surfaces, the importance of trees and plantings for shade.
When we design with a permeable surface -
gravel instead of concrete, DG instead of tile - we allow the water to return to the water table and to your plantings, rather than resulting in hard surface runoff. This is better for our planet long term, and will allow local trees to continue to flourish.
